Amazon requires any clear bag with an opening (before sealed) larger than five inches to have a suffocation warning either printed on the bag or printed on a sticker attached to the bag. As a one man operation, any additional step is one I typically avoid. You can save a little on each item by buying clear bags and using warning stickers but I’ve found it’s not worth the hassle and the bags are usually of lower quality.
Update: After years of frustration trying to find good poly bags with constant availability from a single source one Amazon seller had enough and launched gennzee.com.
The Gennzee Difference
The problem many Amazon sellers have faced over the years is a constant inconsistency in poly bag suppliers. I have seen a lack of quality Spartain Industrial over the past year. From flies smashed in bags to them being cut improperly there has been an obvious decline in quality.
When Gennzee came along I was hopeful but skeptical so I tried their free sample. These were my first impressions:

Strength
They claim to have a tested strength of 20 pounds and that might be an understatement. Where other bags have a tendency to stretch or even allow products to poke through these bags, while not thicker, have a noticeable toughness to them.
Adhesive
The adhesive strip at first glance is a little thinner than would be expected. However, when putting it to the test not only did it hold well but it turned out to be stronger than that of Spartan Industrial, my previous pick. In addition to the strength the adhesive strip itself was consistent on each bag. Others are hit and miss and occasionally have spots missing in the strip.
Ready to Ship
Bundling multiple items together with different UPCs can lead to confusion in the warehouse. Without a sticker stating the item is sold as a set or do not separate, the package may be opened and the items scanned separately. Having “Ready to Ship” printed on each bag means there are no more worries about this and no additional stickers needed. It’s a huge time saver!
Bag Size on Bag
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been prepping products and end up with several different sizes of bags loose in the work area. Previously I would guess or get out a tape measure to get them in the correct storage space. I no longer have to wonder as the sizes are printed directly on each bag. This is a game changer for me and earns the really obvious if you think about it award of the year.
Do Not Stick Together
I’ve gotten so used to separating each bag from Spartan Industrial that I didn’t even consider it an inconvenience. Apparently the bags can be made in such a way that they don’t slightly adhere on one end. Who knew?! Pull the top bag off and you have one bag, they don’t all pull up like an accordion.

Resealable Zip Poly Bags
Since these bags have an opening of only four inches there is no need for a suffocation warning. Super easy to use with a zip lock at the top and no adhesive to fool with. I use these for retail items that have questionable packaging or contain lots of small items. This way if the bag is damaged and the product spills out they are still contained. Since these are the cheapest possible poly bags for FBA I use them whenever I can.

Mailers
These are thicker and stand up better if packaging things that could poke through a regular poly bag.
Small Mailers
For some reason the price of the mailer sleeves continues to rise. These days I prefer the clear 6×9’s as they are cheaper. However, there are still plenty of reason to keep these on hand as they are much more durable and can withstand punctures much better.
These are 6×9 inches with a six inch opening but since they are not clear bags there is no need for a suffocating warning. The other nice thing about these from a safety standpoint is the adhesive is so strong you have to destroy the bag to get inside. The downside is if you make a mistake you have to destroy the bag to get inside. These bags are the most durable you can get. They are very hard to tear or puncture.
Super Serious Pick: Ablemailer
I’ve been using these for years and wouldn’t change a thing. Very low price and though they do not offer Prime shipping they delivery has always been quick and problem free.
Medium Mailers
These are a bit of a strange size but I found the 6×9 just weren’t cutting it or they were so tight it was taking too long to package products. This was the next larger size I could find. The larger the bag, the higher the price so this was the next cheapest option. These bags measure 7.5×10.5 inches and have the same great strength as the 6x9s.
Update: This size is very hard to find in stock and no longer make sense as they are now more expensive than the 8×10 inch clear poly bags.
Clear Ploy Bags with Suffocation Warning
As you can see from my setup I have a lot of different sizes of bags on hand and I use each one regularly. I have labeled the shelves on my organizer to make things easier. Smaller is cheaper so I always try to use the smallest bag possible.
For the longest time the only “affordable” option for clear poly bags was from Rook Pack. They were sold on Amazon and were Amazon Fulfilled. However, I guess they realized they weren’t making enough money because they went away after about six months. These happen to be the same bags that Amazon uses if you pay them to bag for you. (Update: It seems even Amazon has stopped using these bags!) Next, Spartan Industrial was the top pick until the prices went up and the quality went down. This paved the way for Gennzee to shake things up with reliable availability and consistent pricing.
Update (2022) – I ordered some Spartan Industrial bags for my annual comparison and literally laughed out loud. They have now started using an even thinner and flimsier plastic to cover the adhesive strip. It is impossible to get this thing in the trash or even off my finger. Oh, AND, I found another bug smashed in them. Here, see for yourselves!
