I searched long and hard and found only poor answers on this subject. Fortunately, for you, if you found this post, I have a real answer! I won’t keep this secret. The bags I use for sending small and light items to Amazon are the TYPlastics Trash Liners. They are industrial strength and crystal clear to  easily scan barcodes. For more details on the bags, why I picked them and details about the Small and Light program read on!

Small and Light Eligibility

There have been some unfortunate changes to the program recently. In July of 2019 the weight limit went from 15 ounces to 10 ounces and the price went from $15 to $7.

This means new items from this time forward would not be eligible to enroll, however, existing items could continue to utilize the program until January 26, 2020. After this date items priced more than $7 or weighing more than 10 ounces will start to be converted to standard inventory.

Product specifics

  • Products must be 10 ounces or less in weight. (Check out best scale for FBA)
  • Must send in at least 24 units at a time
  • Items must be grouped (bagged or shrink wrapped) together by ASIN
  • Each product must have scannable bar code
  • Products priced less than $7
  • Items must be “fast moving” (There is no explanation of what this is based on)

Shipment specifics

Nothing surprising here. These are the same requirements of good ol’ standard FBA items.

  • Boxes can be no longer than 25 inches on any one side
  • Cannot weigh more than 50 pounds.

Considerations

There are a few requirements of the bag to be used to contain your small and light items on the way to the fulfillment center:

  • Items shipped in a clear plastic bag
  • Barcode must be scannable through the plastic bag

Best Clear Bags for FBA

Trash bags. Yep. I searched long and hard and industrial liners are the best thing for sending in small and light items to Amazon. Of the solutions I tried the TYPLASTICS Liners were the best. The transparency is excellent and buying them in bulk saves a ton of cash. I have been using these for about the last year without any issue at all.

The UPC barcode shows clearly through the bag.

In addition to the clear bag your product will also need a label attached with the quantity of the item located in the bag. I preprint a hand full at a time of different quantities on a Dymo LabelWriter 450 Turbo Thermal Label Printer using 30334 labels.

If you don’t have a thermal printer hand writing “Qty” and the amount works fine too. I always keep some printable address labels on hand which work well for this. These labels can also be used to cover unwanted bar codes or to print “Sold as a set” stickers. Which I prefer to buy by the roll these days.
